Photo of Award6baseIn the past week, Anambra state has hosted Nigerian political big wigs from all the divides like it has never done before. It was the climax of all the electioneering campaigns to see whether Governor Willie Obiano successfully shrieks off the voracious opposition and retains his power as governor of Anambra state for another four year period.
APGA first held a massive rally at Ifeanyi Ubah football grounds, Nnewi on Sunday, featuring notable entertainment stars including stars of Nollywood and music by Flavour . The event was very grand in simple terms as youths from all divides dressed in APGA colours mingled. Midweek, it was President Buhari who had been on a visit to Ebonyi to commission Governor Umahi’s projects, breezing into Awka with APC chieftains and governors to encourage his “ward” Dr Tony Nwoye. The Ekwueme Square was filed to the brim with APC faithful who had come from across the state to witness the climax of their campaign. Hon Fred Nwakonobi, an APC delegate in Anambra North, described the campaign as “monumental” Just as Buhari was in handing over the APC flag to Tony Nwoye in Awka, Osita Chidoka was running through Onitsha in a rally with UPP Chairman Chief Chekwas Okorie where he told traders his mission. Thursday, PDP brought in former President Goodluck Jonathan as well as other PDP Governors who held Onitsha hostage in a rally to boost Oseloka Obaze candidacy. The crowd at All Saints field was very enthusiastic about the victory of the party. Chief Onyi Esiaka, a chieftain of the PDP quipped “it has been hectic.” ANAMBRA 2017: FACTS AND FIGURES 28,000 Police officers, 11,000 Civil Defence officers, 30 sniffer dogs on duty as Anambra votes While the Nigeria Police have on ground 28,000 police officers on ground all over Anambra, the Civil Defence Corps have 11,000 officers overseeing the conduct of today’s elections. 30 sniffer dogs are also employed to work at some polling booths at the 21 local government areas of the state with two officers in each booth. 4608 polling booths across Anambra. There are 4608 polling booths all over Anambra state where the election would hold. Officers led by Deputy Commandant Hillary Madu were moved from Abia, Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Delta, Edo and Benue with over 115 vehicles, 15 boats, drones and ambulances at their disposal. 2.15m voters to participate A total of 2.158171 million registered voters would take part in today’s governorship election in Anambra state. An INEC official in charge of ICT made this revelation during the official publication and display of the voters register in Abuja. IDEMMILI NORTH HAS MORE REGISTERED VOTERS Idemili North Local Government of Anambra state has more registered voters in this election. More female voters, more youths and students Out of the 2.2m registered voters, 50.3 per cent are females while 49.6 percent are males. The same INEC official said students were the highest number of registered voters constituting 48 per cent. RUSH FOR PVCs ended 15th November Collection of PVCs for today’s election started Friday 27th October, 2017 from the various wards across the state and ended Wednesday 15, November, 2017 . The collections from the wards lasted Sunday, 29th October, 2017. From the wards, the cards were at the INEC LGA offices from Monday 30th till the 15th November, 2017 for collections three days before the elections. 6000 card readers to be used by INEC 6000 card readers will be put to use today for the governorship election in Anambra state today. Most of the readers have been tested and certified okay by INEC according to INEC Administrative Secretary in Anambra state Charles Mbanaja.
